Arizona Cardinals

Team Updated Player Pos. Injury Status Update Rotowire Analysis
Arizona Cardinals 1/5/2009 2:28:44 PM Anquan Boldin WR Hamstring questionable Boldin's left hamstring is strained, not torn, head coach Ken Whisenhunt told the Arizona Republic on Monday. While this is positive news, Whisenhunt pointed out that hamstring injuries are unpredictable and that Boldin's status for Saturday's game won't be determined until later in the week. The coach thinks that Boldin got hurt because a shoulder injury kept him from practicing in Weeks 16 and 17. Since Boldin hasn't done much running in recent weeks, his hamstring was vulnerable.
Arizona Cardinals 1/4/2009 11:00:56 AM Leonard Pope TE Knee probable Pope was inactive for Saturday's Wild Card playoff game. While he is battling a knee injury, he may have been inactive because of a coach's decision, the Cardinals' official site reports. The Cardinals don't throw to their tight ends very often and Pope looks like he is the third option on their tight end depth chart. He will be a free agent at the end of the season and the Cardinals don't seem to view him as a big part of their future plans.
Arizona Cardinals 1/4/2009 11:07:08 AM Stephen Spach TE Ankle probable Spach (ankle) made three receptions for 34 yards in Saturday's Wild Card playoff victory, including a late catch that sealed the win. He only made two catches for 15 yards in nine regular season games. Spach was out of football and changing a flat tire when the Cardinals called him in October to offer a roster spot. Spach has impressed the team since then -- mainly with his blocking ability -- and there is a good chance that he will be invited back next season. However, while Spach is a nice story and the Cardinals' starting tight end, he's still a minimal fantasy consideration.
Arizona Cardinals 1/4/2009 11:00:56 AM Travis LaBoy DE Ankle questionable LaBoy (ankle) was inactive for Saturday's playoff game. He was close to playing, which bodes well for his Divisional playoff status. However, LaBoy fails to make a dent in the stat sheet more often than not.
Arizona Cardinals 12/30/2008 9:27:30 AM Ali Highsmith LB Knee IR/DL/IL Highsmith suffered a torn ACL Sunday and has been placed on injured reserve.

Baltimore Ravens

Team Updated Player Pos. Injury Status Update Rotowire Analysis
Baltimore Ravens 1/5/2009 3:43:16 PM Ray Rice RB Calf probable Rice (calf) who was active, but did not play in Sunday's win over Miami, said he's at about 95 percent and that he expects to play Saturday against the Titans, the Baltimore Sun reports. Baltimore can deploy Rice on short passes and screens, which should particularly effective against a strong Tennessee defense. Keep an eye on his status throughout the week, but it looks like he'll be ready to play on Sunday.
Baltimore Ravens 1/1/2009 11:29:52 AM Antwan Barnes LB pectorals Out Ravens LB Antwan Barnes revealed Wednesday that his season is over due to a strained pectoral muscle. "I’m out for the season, yeah, even for the playoffs," Barnes said. He finished the season with five tackles on defense and nine on special teams. The Ravens are likely to place him on injured reserve before Sunday.
Baltimore Ravens 12/31/2008 10:05:21 AM Marcus Maxwell WR hip I.R. Ravens placed WR Marcus Maxwell on injured reserve, ending his season. The former Bengal and special teamer didn't have a catch with Baltimore this year.

Carolina Panthers

Team Updated Player Pos. Injury Status Update Rotowire Analysis
Carolina Panthers 12/29/2008 10:33:48 AM Maake Kemoeatu DT ankle Questionable Kemoeatu missed the Panthers' last game, but may play in the team's first playoff game following the bye week

New York Giants

Team Updated Player Pos. Injury Status Update Rotowire Analysis
New York Giants 1/5/2009 5:34:27 PM Brandon Jacobs RB knee Questionable Giants coach Tom Coughlin "hopes" Brandon Jacobs (knee) will be ready for the team's first playoff game. "I hope so," Coughlin said. "That’s what we’re leaning towards. We’re counting on that taking place, certainly."
New York Giants 1/5/2009 9:27:25 AM Justin Tuck DE Lower Leg probable Played sparingly last game, probable Sunday (1/11) vs Philadelphia
New York Giants 1/2/2009 4:55:52 PM Kareem McKenzie OT back Probable McKenzie returned to practice and is probable for the Giants' playoff game on Sunday 1/11 Giants RT Kareem McKenzie (back) returned to practice Friday. McKenzie should be ready for Giants' Division Round game next weekend. They will either face Philadelphia, Atlanta, or Arizona two Sundays from now.
New York Giants 12/31/2008 5:28:52 PM Johnathan Goff LB hamstring I.R. Giants placed LB Jonathan Goff (hamstring) on injured reserve, ending his season. The fifth-round rookie from Vanderbilt played in only five of a possible 15 games due to multiple injuries. Goff was durable in college, making 40 straight starts as a Commodore, but didn't hold up in the more physical pros.
New York Giants 12/31/2008 2:39:42 PM Reuben Droughns RB neck I.R. Giants placed RB Reuben Droughns (neck) on injure reserve, ending his season. Now strictly a special teamer, Droughns was the odd man out when the team needed a roster spot for newly signed Derek Hagan. With a roster bonus due March 1, don't expect to see Droughns back in a Giants uniform barring a pay cut. He will turn 31 just before the start of the 2009 season and there's not much left in the tank.
New York Giants 12/30/2008 5:11:48 PM Sam Madison CB Ankle IR Madison (ankle) was placed on injured reserve Tuesday. Not much surprise here, as his injury was already determined to be a season ending one.
New York Giants 12/30/2008 12:47:39 PM Plaxico Burress WR hamstring Out Plaxico Burress' four-game suspension came to an end Monday, but he's not likely to return to the Meadowlands until after the playoffs are over. GM Jerry Reese made it clear that he will sit down with Plax after the playoffs to discuss his future with the team. For now, Reese says, "Plaxico is taking his time to get healthy and tend to the important matters he has in his personal life."

Philadelphia Eagles

Team Updated Player Pos. Injury Status Update Rotowire Analysis
Philadelphia Eagles 1/5/2009 7:00:57 PM Brian Westbrook RB Knee probable Westbrook (knee, ankle) ran for just 38 yards on 20 carries but also racked up 83 yards and a touchdown on three catches during the Eagles' win Sunday. Westbrook was bottled up on the ground, gaining just 1.9 YPC. However, a 71-yard TD on a screen pass was the difference in the game and the team's lone offensive touchdown. Still, it's clear Westbrook is far from 100 percent health, so expect him to miss plenty of practice this week leading up to the game versus the Giants.
Philadelphia Eagles 1/5/2009 2:38:35 PM Shawn Andrews OT back Out Coach Andy Reid said Monday that RG Shawn Andrews (back) could return for Eagles' Divisional Round tilt with the Giants. Andrews, a two-time Pro Bowler, would be a huge addition to the Birds' run game in this difficult matchup. He will visit a specialist this week and could resume practicing. Undersized Nick Cole has been starting at RG of late.
Philadelphia Eagles 1/5/2009 11:27:30 AM L.J. Smith TE Shoulder questionable Smith missed last game, questionable Sunday (1/11) vs Giants
Philadelphia Eagles 1/5/2009 9:43:46 PM Greg Lewis WR Foot Questionable Played sparingly last week, questionable for 1/11 against the Giants. Initial indications were that Lewis was out after being carted off, but he saw a first-quarter target and played on special teams. He'll likely be active for the Divisional Round against the Giants.
Philadelphia Eagles 1/5/2009 1:30:22 PM Dan Klecko DT Shoulder Questionable injured last game, questionable for this weekend's game vs Giants
Philadelphia Eagles 1/5/2009 9:19:33 AM Victor Abiamiri DE foot Questionable Missed Sunday's game, questionable 1/11 vs NYG

Pittsburgh Steelers

Team Updated Player Pos. Injury Status Update Rotowire Analysis
Pittsburgh Steelers 1/5/2009 7:03:47 PM Ben Roethlisberger QB concussion Probable Ben Roethlisberger has been medically cleared and confirmed he will start next Sunday against San Diego. Ben Roethlisberger revealed Monday that both of his arms went numb when he was concussed in Week 17. Roethlisberger, who practiced as expected, clearly did not suffer a "mild" concussion as the Steelers have claimed. He will start against San Diego.
Pittsburgh Steelers 1/5/2009 4:27:43 PM James Harrison LB Hip questionable Harrison (hip pointer) returned to practice on Monday. Harrison was named the NFL's Defensive Player of the Year earlier on Monday. He set a franchise record with 16 sacks and he forced seven fumbles. Look for big things from Harrison against the Chargers on Sunday -- he strip-sacked quarterback Phillip Rivers for a safety in the regular season and also hauled in Rivers' second career red-zone interception.
Pittsburgh Steelers 12/31/2008 2:35:33 PM Ryan Clark S shoulder Questionable Steelers S Ryan Clark anticipates returning to practice early next week. He hurt his shoulder in Week 16 and hasn't seen the field since. Clark is injury-prone, but his tone-setting hits have been a big part of Pittsburgh's improvement in the secondary this season. It sounds like he'll be ready for the playoffs.

Team Updated Player Pos. Injury Status Update Rotowire Analysis
Tennessee Titans 1/5/2009 5:30:49 PM Kyle Vanden Bosch DE groin Probable Titans coach Jeff Fisher confirmed that DE Kyle Vanden Bosch (groin) will return to practice this week. Vanden Bosch says he's now 100 percent pain free for the first time suffering the injury back in early October.
Tennessee Titans 1/5/2009 5:30:07 PM Albert Haynesworth DT groin Probable Titans coach Jeff Fisher confirmed DT Albert Haynesworth (knee) will return to practice this week. Haynesworth has been working with trainers and has vowed to be ready for the playoff home opener against either the Ravens or Chargers.
Tennessee Titans 1/5/2009 1:27:16 PM Kevin Mawae C elbow Questionable Mawae is expected to be questionable for this weekend's game vs Ravens Appearing on CBS' half-time show Sunday, Titans coach Jeff Fisher said that C Kevin Mawae (elbow) is questionable to face the Ravens. Fisher sounded much more confident in Kyle Vanden Bosch (groin) and Albert Haynesworth (knee), so there's a good chance the Titans will be without Mawae. His absence would hurt the running game against the Ravens stout defensive front.
Tennessee Titans 12/31/2008 10:43:26 AM Kevin Vickerson DT Suspension Active Titans DT Kevin Vickerson is eligible to come off suspension now that the regular season is over. The Titans have a week to make a roster move. Vickerson wasn't a huge part of the team before the injury. Tennessee expects to have Albert Haynesworth and Kyle Vanden Bosch back for the playoffs.

King is eligible for free agency in 2009.

Chicago Bulls 1/5/2009 4:05:29 PM Drew Gooden F ankle Probable Drew Gooden plans on playing Tuesday against the Kings after an MRI on his ankle on Monday showed no further damage. He participated in part of Monday's practice and will test his ankle again at Tuesday's shootaround, but it sounds like he has a good chance of playing. He's missed eight games with the injury.

Cleveland Cavaliers

Team Updated Player Pos. Injury Status Update Rotowire Analysis
Cleveland Cavaliers 1/2/2009 11:10:05 PM Zydrunas Ilgauskas C Ankle OUT An MRI on Ilgauskas left ankle revealed a chipped talus bone and he could miss up to a month, the Associated Press reports. Ilgauskas missed three games in December for what was thought to be a sprained ankle. We immediately think about the foot injuries that cost Ilgauskas significant time early on his career. He said the pins and screws from a restructuring operation were not affected by the fracture. Ilgauskas has been remarkably durable this those first few seasons, averaging 78 games per season since the 2002-03 season. Anderson Varejao will get a big bump in minutes as a result.
